BUILTING THE SET

And some footage from Live in China 2013

The sun blasting outside my studio but I’m absorbed by the upcoming Premonition Tour, how to build the set-what to keep, what to cut. So I dig through my catalogue, reminding myself of old songs. Here’s one from long ago, a cover of China Girl I released back in 2005. I made you a new version with some footage from I tour I played in China back in 2013, more on that another time.

Some of you came to several shows in May and have bought tickets for September, that’s really wonderful! You keep me on my toes, gotta change things up a bit. My mornings are dedicated to composing. This is when my head is clear and the day full of possibility, I try to ride that wave for as long as I can. After lunch I do some time traveling, digging through my catalogue for old stuff that can be brought back to life.

Old setlist - must build new. Please remind me if you think of some long forgotten neglected song.

I face myself every goddamn time, my own particular style of guitar playing and limited piano skills. It can be frustrating but it also keeps it interesting. I make or break the rules, I learn new things and I try to unlearn others. If I start doubting myself I think of the comedians.

Comedians are so brave, they work on their material over and over, improve their jokes and fail completely -infront of a crowd. They get laughed out of the room and get back out there. It’s inspiring-moving away from control and find a more fluid way to approach music, things…life in general. Ok, back to work, time is precious and never enough.

See you soon
